Pepper's Landing, a Maine seafood restaurant, wanted a name for their house champagne beer honoring local Maine figure Pepper Martin's career as a competitive water skier. I drew the script lettering for "Champ" by hand so the letterforms move like waves, then wove a water skier silhouette into the C rather than adding it as a separate graphic. The mark works because the typography itself tells the story, not just an illustration sitting next to it. Pepper's Landing has since brought me back for logos, t-shirts, and more as they've grown into a small chain of restaurants, and Champ is the project I often look back to for its exploration in type.
